BACKGROUND

In September 1945, Rotorua Musical Theatre previously known as Rotorua Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society was form with the aim to promote musical, choral operatic and dramatic entertainment to the benefit of the community in Rotorua/Bay of Plenty and New Zealand. Over a span of 70 plus years there has been 176 shows staged.

Rotorua Musical Theatre has been recognized as contributing majorly to the arts in Rotorua. It has provided a platform for excellence in our community. A tool for development and a home to many. Individuals are given a chance to participate in both performance and technical aspects of a musical.

RMT has its own theatre – Casablanca in Riri Street, Rotorua where 2 or 3 shows a year are produced.

The big budget shows such as ‘Mary Poppins’ or ‘Mamma Mia’ are produced at the Sir Howard Morrison  Centre which is undergoing renovation.
